The Lerab Ling Institute of Wisdom and Compassion, in the
Languedoc-Roussillon region of southern France, is Rigpa’s
main centre and its international base. ‘Lerab
Ling’ means ‘Sanctuary of Enlightened
Action’. Lerab Ling is home to a thriving monastic community
of 13 monks and nuns, and a lay community of more than 100 people. It
is also home to a traditional Tibetan Buddhist temple that many lamas
consider to be the largest and most authentic of its kind in Europe, or
even the West. Many people come to Lerab Ling each year to attend
retreats with Sogyal Rinpoche, other lamas and senior Rigpa students,
or to do personal retreats.
